A Guide for Evaluating Any Spa, Not Just Ours
The wellness and massage sector in Ajman, like in many fast-growing parts of the UAE, includes a wide range of operators — some fully licensed and long-established, others informal, short-lived, or trading under a license that doesn't match the services actually offered. From the outside, the difference isn't always visible: the shopfront, the pricing, even the décor can look identical whether a business is licensed or not. This page exists to give anyone — a guest, a journalist, a resident checking on someone else's behalf — a fast, independent way to tell the difference, whether or not you ever visit us.
We publish it as a standalone resource because it's genuinely useful information, not because it flatters us specifically. If you use this checklist on a completely different spa, that's exactly what it's for.
The 60-Second Checklist
1. Ask for the number
A licensed business should state its Ajman DED license number without hesitation, on the spot.
2. Check the public register
Visit ajmanded.ae and search that number, or the trade name, yourself.
3. Match the trade name
Confirm the registered trade name on the register matches what's on display at the premises.
4. Match the address
The address on the register should match where you actually are — not a different building or emirate.

6 Red Flags of an Unlicensed or Risky Spa
1. No license number on request
Hesitation, vagueness, or refusal when you ask directly is the single clearest warning sign.
2. No fixed, matching address
A licensed spa has a registered premises address that matches the public register — not just a phone number or social page.
3. Cash-only, no receipts
Licensed businesses in Ajman are generally set up to issue receipts; a consistent refusal to do so is worth questioning.
4. Pricing not stated upfront
Vague or shifting pricing quoted only once you're already in the room is a common pattern among less transparent operators.
5. Therapists can't describe their training
A responsible business should be able to say, in general terms, what training or certification its therapists hold — even if it's a separate matter from the business license itself.
6. No visible hygiene process
Fresh towels, sanitised rooms and single-use or properly stored oils should be a described process, not just a word like "clean" used as marketing.
Business License vs. Therapist Certification
It's worth being precise about what a DED license actually confirms. It verifies that the business itself — the premises, the trade name, the permitted commercial activity — is legally registered and compliant with Ajman's regulations. It does not, on its own, certify the training or qualifications of any individual therapist working there. Those are separate matters, and a responsible spa should be able to speak to both: the business license on request, and the general training background of its therapists on request.
What to Do If You Suspect a Spa Isn't Licensed
Verification isn't only useful before you book — it matters just as much if something feels off once you're already at a location, or after the fact.
Report it to Ajman DED directly. The Department of Economic Development is the licensing authority for commercial activity in Ajman and takes reports of unlicensed trading through its own channels at ajmanded.ae. This is the correct first step rather than only leaving a review, since DED is the body with authority to investigate and act.
Keep what you can as a record. A photo of signage, a receipt, or even the address you visited is more useful to a regulator than a description from memory.
None of this is intended as legal advice — for a specific dispute or consumer-protection question, the Ajman DED public channels and UAE consumer protection resources are the authoritative source, not this page.
